Hi there, dear reader of College Meal Saver! My name is Larrouy Kary, I’m 40 years old, and I live in Austin, Texas. My culinary journey started long before I became a chef in fact, it began in a tiny college apartment, just like the ones you (or your kids) might be living in right now.
Back then, I was juggling classes, part-time jobs, and a tight budget. Like many students, I survived on instant ramen, frozen pizzas, and anything that cost less than two bucks. But soon, I realized my body (and my mood) were paying the price. So I started looking for simple, affordable ways to cook more nourishing meals.
I still remember my first real culinary win: a homemade chili made from canned beans, tomatoes, and a bit of ground beef. It didn’t look like much, but for me, it was a revolution a hot, flavorful, budget-friendly dish that gave me several meals! Little by little, I experimented, I failed sometimes (yes, I once added way too much chili powder and had to chug a quart of milk to survive!), but most importantly, I learned.
Today, at 40, I’m proud to call myself a professional chef but above all, I’ve never forgotten where I came from. That’s why I created this blog, College Meal Saver. My mission? To help you find simple, affordable, and delicious recipes, whether you’re a student, a parent feeding a college kid, or just someone who wants to eat well without breaking the bank.
My cooking philosophy is simple: less is more. You don’t need fancy ingredients or complicated gadgets. With just a few basics rice, pasta, veggies, eggs and a little imagination, you can make magic. And above all, I want you to know that cooking doesn’t have to be perfect. We learn by messing up, and sometimes, a kitchen fail turns into a new favorite recipe.
So welcome to my world! I hope my recipes inspire you, make you smile, and help keep a little extra money in your wallet. And if you ever want to share your own tips or ask for ideas, I’m always here to chat. Because at the end of the day, cooking is an adventure we take together.
See you soon,
Larrouy 🌶️✨
